When planning a trip a lot of people tend to “wing it” and go with the flow. Not sure that’s going to work when you’re planning for a trip that’s going to last at least five years or longer. So, I bought a few good books that I was interested in wanting to see to start thinking about my journey. I will have a link for all of them at the end of this post in case you would like to use them for your trip as well.
When traveling in an RV (or whatever), there are some questions you need to ask yourself before starting out.
Where do I want to go?
Since I want to travel and see as much as I can of the USA, I started with the books I have listed in my post. This will work for any place you want to travel to. Start checking out places on the internet if you are interested in seeing a place and then go to a bookstore and check out information that they might have. Buy a notebook or journal and start writing the places down. This is a fun thing to do so you can check them off when you get there.
How long do I want to stay?
This will depend on how you want to travel. If you are a weekend, part-time or full-time traveler makes a big difference on how long you can stay in one place at any given time. Also, do you want to stay a couple of days and just see a few things or do you want to stay longer so you can see more sites? Decide how long and where you want to stay. Start checking out campsites near the place, Harvest Hosts or boondocking places that can accommodate you when you want to be there. This will be needed to add to your spending plan.
How much is in my spending plan?
How are you going to fund your trip? Are you putting money aside for it? Can you work remotely? Do you already have a retirement fund like I do? How much money do you plan on spending at each location?
After you figure out where you want to go and how long you want to stay, write down what you want to do while you’re there and all the expenses that it takes to enjoy your trip. This way you’ll know how much you’ll need so you can enjoy the trip and you won’t be stressed out. Nothing is worse than getting somewhere and running out of money.
Remember to weigh the cost of staying somewhere against the gas that is needed to travel. It might be better to stay at one place for a week then to go to several places in that week.
Books on my list to plan my adventure
These books have opened my eyes to so many places that I want to see. Do you have any books that have done the same for you? Where do you plan to go on your next adventure? Let us know in the comments below so we can check them out.
Thanks for stopping by. Remember to live your daydreams and make some awesome memories!
