Why do you use the word “Liberty”?

The Marine Corps definition is:  Liberty is the authorized absence of an individual from a place of duty not chargeable as leave.  What that means when you aren’t working, you can go out on “liberty” and have some fun without using any of your leave (vacation time).  Usually this is on weekends & holidays.
